About CSII

Bridging academic research and field-level execution

The Horn of Africa sits at a critical crossroads — a vital bridge connecting Sub-Saharan Africa, North Africa, and the Middle East. CSII was founded on the belief that lasting integration requires more than analysis: it requires research and implementation working as one discipline, not two.

Our Vision

To be the most trusted and influential research, advisory, and development hub shaping regional integration, engineering sustainable development, and building lasting cooperation bridges across international borders.

Our Mission

To produce rigorous scientific knowledge, deliver predictive strategic analyses, and build robust human capital that empowers decision-makers and advances peace and socio-economic integration.

Organization
Center for Strategic Studies and Integration Initiatives (CSII)
Location
Addis Ababa, Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia
Legal status
Independent, non-profit civil society organization — registered with the Authority for Civil Society Organizations (ACSO), Registration No. 8005
Core focus
Geopolitics, regional trade, climate resilience, Track II diplomacy, and social entrepreneurship

Traditional frameworks isolate research from execution. We close that gap.

CSII introduces a dynamic paradigm: combining elite, data-driven regional policy analysis with direct, on-the-ground project engineering — so that findings become funded, implemented, and monitored initiatives rather than reports left on a shelf.

Strategic Focus Areas

Five interconnected thematic pillars

CSII operates at the intersection of public policy, environmental security, and economic expansion.

01

Regional Economic Integration & Supply Chains

Facilitating intra-regional trade alignment with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and designing shared maritime, logistics, and energy corridors across the region.

02

Climate Resilience & Food Security

Advancing transboundary water cooperation, scaling climate-smart agriculture, and unifying regional climate diplomacy to access global green finance.

03

Track II Diplomacy & Peacebuilding

Deploying early warning forecasting models and hosting neutral, informal roundtable dialogues to resolve regional and cross-border frictions.

04

Human Capital & Language Connectivity

Driving youth and women's economic empowerment while operating a specialized language institute — with an emphasis on Arabic — to accelerate Afro-Arab commercial diplomacy.

05

Financial Capital & Regional Investment

Synchronizing cross-border capital flows and investment frameworks to catalyze economic cooperation, mitigate financial risk, and drive sustainable market integration.

How We Work

The Integrated Impact Cycle

Every CSII initiative moves through a disciplined execution model — we do not stop at publishing findings.

PHASE 1

Research & Foresight

Deep field-level monitoring to diagnose vulnerabilities and pinpoint opportunities, anchored in rigorous academic study.

PHASE 2

Project Engineering

Translating research into actionable project plans, complete with feasibility studies, financing frameworks, and impact measurement matrices.

PHASE 3

Direct Field Delivery

Implementing projects directly, or serving as technical and supervisory manager for large-scale multilateral and sovereign initiatives.

Governance

Our Board of Directors — academics, international experts, and former diplomats — holds ultimate responsibility for strategic and financial policy.

Financial integrity

Restricted development grants are held in isolated accounts, subject to independent annual audits by certified accounting firms.

Research independence

All studies and policy briefs undergo neutral, peer-reviewed evaluation, kept strictly separate from any financing channel.
